Never Strive To Be A Standard
When You Stand To Be Extraordinary
Welcome To LCDals
Welcome to LCDals!
If you didn't know long coat Dalmatians existed, that's OK! Until a few years ago they were one of the best kept secrets of the Dalmatian world!
In 2015 when this page launched there were less than 100 known long coat Dalmatians alive in the world.
As I learned the sad story behind the numbers
I knew these dogs were not placed in my path by coincidence.
Their story, resonated deeply in my heart due to my own personnal testimony.
This page and breeding program exist as a public platform to help end the negative stigma attached to being different.
I hope this will become a place to showcase the beauty in individuality.
Rather you currently consider yourself a fan, friend or foe of the lc dals, the majestic beauty they posses is undeniable to everyone alike.
It is my sincere hope that as you scroll through the pages and photographs even their most intense critics will begin to appreciate them for what they truely are. Extraordinary!
The long coat or "LC" gene is a genetic recessive trait. It violates the current AKC Dalmatian breed standard and is considered an automatic disqualification in the show ring. Due to this fact, the long coats are currently still a highly controversial subject among many Dalmatian enthusiasts. The gene is present in several bloodlines. It has been showing up in litters for at least the last 15 years! Sadly, in 2014, less than 100 were known to have ever existed in the entire world. The only public information regarding long coats at that time belonged to a group of Dalmatian enthusiasts who took enforcing breed standards to some shocking extremes. In many situations brutally attacking, slandering and bullying any kennel who produced a long coat puppy to the point of having them shut down or driven out of business. Due to the level of harsh criticism, mamy people were driven to extreme lengths to hide them. Until recently their "flawed" coats meant, in many circumstances, a potentially grim future for the puppies born with it. The expression of this recessive gene landed a lucky few into rescue facilities. The unlucky puppies found themselves dumped off in parks or other areas. Even worse yet, it is believed that the majority of the long coat puppies were euthanized in order to protect the reputation of the breeding program.
They are regular pure bred AKC Dalmatians. As mentioned above the coat length violates the current AKC standard to show them in conformation.
However, they are still welcome to compete in all other AKC events. Like many other Dalmatians, they show great ability in rally, dock diving, obedience and agility. It is my hope to someday see the coat deviation accepted by the DCA and AKC. The same as it is with several other AKC breeds.
Until then, they will continue on as the champions of my heart!3
